Bengaluru in the last two decades has emerged as the most preferred destination for investments by leading Indian and global multinationals. The city has also emerged as the capital of IT, Biotech, Startups and deeptech companies. Inspired by the growth of Bengaluru other cities in Karnataka are also gearing up to become the next best destinations.
Thus Beyond Bengaluru is an initiative by the Government of Karnataka to promote emerging technology clusters in Tier II & III cities across the State. This is supported by strategic policy interventions and by creating a dynamic ecosystem with sharp focus on infrastructure development, increasing the talent availability and bettering market access. It is expected that such initiatives should lead to increasing demand from IT/GCC/ESDM companies to spread their wings in Tier II & III cities.
Thus, the 'Beyond Bengaluru programmes' will be held in Mysore, Mangalore and Hubballi in October 2021. The programme in each city will be a hybrid, one day conference- with industry leaders, policy makers, R&D community and Startups coming together to share their stories and ignite the next wave of development.
Karnataka is globally recognized as the Information Technology (IT), Biotechnology (Bt), Research and Development (R&D) and Start-Up capital of the country with Bengaluru being branded as the most dynamic city in the world and Silicon Valley of India.
Karnataka has historically been a hub for technology and R&D based institutions in India, and boasts of adequate infrastructure to support its vision. The Department of Electronics, IT, BT and S&T through its innovative initiatives has been promoting Karnataka as the most preferred destination for frontier technologies, creating a conducive environment for Electronics, IT, BT and S&T related industries. Karnataka is the first state to draft its own IT, Biotech, ESDM, AVGC and Start-up policy and has set up 9 CoEs, incubation & learning centres.
Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS)
Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS) helps the Department of Information Technology and Biotechnology in facilitating and promoting the Information Technology and Biotech sectors in the state. KITS acts as a synergic liaison between Industry and Government, providing secretarial services to the State IT and BT projects, making it the linchpin for providing all basic information that facilitates the establishment of IT & BT Industries in the State. It is the nodal agency for implementing the decisions of the Vision Group on IT and the Vision Group on BT.
KITS also focuses on tapping Karnataka's large IT talent pool, functioning as a key driver for augmenting foreign investments and collaborations, to enhance skill development, mutual industry facilitation and encourage startups and MSMEs.
Karnataka in general and Bengaluru in particular has witnessed heady growth in IT and BT sectors from early 2000. The coming decade promises even more growth, with the maturity of the IT and startup ecosystems in Bengaluru City, which is consistently ranked among the Top 30 Global Startup Ecosystems in the World.
The Karnataka Digital Economy Mission promises to harness the unlimited potential of the digital economy of Karnataka to transform the lives of the people in the state. The IT ecosystem not only uplifts lives of professionals in the industry, but also powers millions of other ancillary jobs across other industries. KDEM will help guide growth and investments in Five core sectors. An advocacy council will be set up for each vertical which will guide the management in its goals. A vision document will help provide the strategy for each vertical along with implementation roadmaps.
